Troubled Mother : Article
I had to do 3 illustrations that involved a troubled mother raising a child. I've decided to go in a more Illustrator approach to it.
- Finals -
- Inspirations and Ideas-
Coming up with the Ideas were the most frustrating. Without any experiences of raising a child it is difficult to feel the hardship of this mother in the article. I've only found picture references so far but concept wise, I kept reading the article over and over to get the sense and feel of it.
- Sketches -
As you can see here, there was small modifications I've made on these sketches but overall concept, it remained the same.
- Samples -
Here are the samples I've sent to my Art Director. I wasn't sure what style to go for. If I wanted it in Color? Monochrome? In the end I've decided to go for black and white because to go for the dark, sad mood. The Red is added in because it has the feeling of bond (Blood) while it could also mean Hardship. It also helped made the drawings Pop out of the picture.
The Other two styles I went for didn't have the feeling. It had the concept of being trapped, but the colors and the style did not give off the same effect. It looked more fun and playful.

Lately I've been MIA. Working on a piece that I didn't know it would take so long. Well, I need to learn a faster way of coming up with images.
